Rest day + burger.

Last night featured a Burger King Angus meal. It was foul and totally unsatisfying.

Today was rest day. It felt good actually, my right shoulder hurts slightly while fully extended. I ate thai food for lunch and now I'm chewing down tuc-crackers. Mmm, crap food.

I was going to write a long rant about how everything sucks but I don't have the time to do so. Instead I'll just put a list of what I was going to say. Probably easier for everyone involved.

People really are like the saying goes "ignorance is bliss".
Our school system sucks for not teaching us how to live a healthy and good life. This obviously connects with the above. "I don't need to train because I'm not dangerously overweight. I also eat good food from felix". Sigh.

You're never good enough until you're better than yesterday. Accelerated improvement is better than linear improvement.

Ignorance is not an excuse. It's up to you to know what's good for you and what isn't. You don't know well enough what's good for you.

Am I exaggerating? I am, but not enough.

  1. Hey Simon. I'm on board with all of your thoughts there. It seems that people in all generations just keep living through the same cycles. Interpersonal/societal power struggles, running from "pain," and always seeking to fill that void in their life...

    I think this stems from our human tendency to always be thinking. We pride ourselves on being "above animals," or different than animals because we have thought and choice, etc. But in reality, it is our thinking that disconnects us from the world, and we begin to view everything as separate, or outside ourselves. Human thought is a great tool, but unfortunately our disease as well :(.

    I could rant on this all day, but it would do no good. At the end of the day I want to be healthy/fit, have a few close relationships, and just some clothes and a place to sleep. Oh well.... :P

    Yeah and what disturbs me the most is that people don't know and aren't interested in knowing. It's as you say, they run from 'pain' or just in general everything that's somewhat tough to do. Simplify rather than understanding. It's some sort of sick abstraction that's put on to human life - the less details you need to see the better.

    Ah well :)

  4. Crap, I stayed up too late. Tomorrow might suck. Oh well. My own fault. Umm...

    I guess that's it for now. Will start tackling some of those soon I hope :).


    This is a funny observation. We're about 2.5 months into this now, with me just doing these workouts. Now after 1 day of rest I feel great! Whereas before, it would take me a few days to feel okay again. I can totally tell that my level of fitness is going up :) Thanks for partnering up on this!

  5. Man shit... I can't believe that you do more unbroken pushups than me. I was so proud over that record laugh.

    Yeah fast recovery is important :) Sleep is important! I try to get atleast 7 hours every night now (a lot better than my previous 5) and I can tell that it helps a lot!

    I agree to your rant to some degree, but I think taking the "outside"/"elitist"/"looking down at" approach at people who haven't realized that fitness is important is probably not gonna convert anyone. That said I tend to take that point alot more than I like, but I am working on it. I know you don't mean it all out like that, just a point. I see alot of myself in you, Simon :-)

    I hope it's ok that I read and comment on you guys training & results - I think you both do a good job working hard! And sorry for my english - it's not used that often anymore...

    Try this WOD: 150 honest chest-touching-floor (like they all should be of course) pushups for time, but every time you have to break you have to sprint 400m. It's "fun".

    Yeah I know what you mean. I'm not really the "look down at"/"elitist" dude even though that's what I sound like.

    To clarify:
    I think that everybody can and everybody should. It's not people's own fault that they don't know better, but I do think that people in general should try harder. That goes for everything, not just training or food or health. I think that everybody should challenge their fears, and I don't say that in pity or to throw it in somebody's face. I really do mean it in an honest and encouraging way. I guess that's a big difficulty with all this communication through the internet. The way you put out the text phrases your "mood" and is interpreted by everyone's own teachings. In all my notes I'm really happy and try to be encouraging. Unfortunately that's not what people receive when reading my posts :P I sound a lot more bitter and mean than I really am (that actually goes in real life too).

    To be honest, I think that the people in our group that have the "worst" results are the one doing the best job out there. They have the strength to continue even when seeing that people are performing "better" than themselves. That requires strength, passion and will. It's impressive to watch. Of course I don't think that anyone is performing bad, every day I get impressed by individuals in our group.

    Oh, and it's very important to point out that everything is relative. Just because I think that eating more than 2 fruits in a day is like eating candy doesn't mean that everyone else should consider that as "their way". It's just a way that motivates me and works for me.

    Hmm I like that WOD Martin, what is the equivalent of rowing instead of running those 400m? I really can't run 400m 10 times, my legs would go bye bye.

    And yes, it's just more fun with people commenting our training and results. The more feedback the better (after all, we're here to learn).

  8. Nice comments, unfortunately I can't elaborate, as I'm starting my work day and have a lot of things on the docket. So please excuse the abbreviated format:

    1) Martin, your English is great, don't sweat it. I appreciate that you both converse here in English because I can admit my Swedish is not so good.

    2) Simon, I have never taken your tone as negative, but more as an imploring, reaching wish for humanity to reach its potential.

    2a) that being said, I have never ever been anywhere near mine, and I hope I don't come across as elitist, because I know that I have many areas in which I could personally improve

    3) Yeah the internet is a bad modicum on which to communicate, as far as reading tone, etc.

    4) going to try that WOD (pushups for time)

    5) I think I am developing shin splints (bad soreness on front of shin) on my left leg. It's from running to catch footballs in my workshoes in the building I work in. Stupid choice :)

    6) Simon, I have a lot to learn from you on food. I eat so poorly. For example, here's what I've had so far today:

    6 shots espresso with half and half (cream/milk)
    1 wheat bagel
    cream cheese
    1 advantedge protein shake (17g proten 2 g fat 3g carb)
    multi vitimin/creatine/vitimin d/flax oil

    I need to get better at the diet portion. I take in a lot of calories, mostly good ones, but as you can see, I start my day bad...

  10. Eat vegetables & some fruit (I eat too much just beacause it's easy to take in). NEVER eat pasta, rice or bread (I cheat a bit, but the rule is still there :-)). Get protein from meat & fish, and just if it's not possible use supplements. Then fill up calorie intake with nuts & seeds. It's just that simple.

  11. Oh, Simon, row is no good substitution for what I want to happen in the body. Squats are better. 50 squats for 400m? Possibly swings would also work.

  12. I really need work on my food intake. I pretty much eat:

    Whey protein
    mixed frozen berries
    some vegetables (mainly romaine lettuce, broccoli and cauliflower)
    and then random bad crap :(

    I really need to clean up my food

    oh and chicken etc....

  13. Decrease the whey-protein. Exchange it for Caseine if any, but preferably meat. Fish is awesome. Try to eat it at least 3 meals / week. Bring nuts instead of randomly bad crap. Blueberries are the best berries, try to stick to them if you like their taste :) Try to add a small carbohydrate source to every meal, specifically the first meal after a training. That way you'll get better insuline levels post-workout to get your carbohydrate anabolism part of the metabolism going. Too little carbohydrates actually increases your ketogenesis to produce ketons for your brain. It's what the brain uses when there's not enough carbohydrate-sources to produce glucose (to put it easy). A high ketogenesis (also called ketosis) is really bad for your liver. Which is essentially why carbohydrate-free diets are crap.

    Your brain needs 120g glucose every day (individual ofc). Make sure to eat at least that.
